AniTechno is back in business!

So my fellow bloggers and techies AniTechno is back in business. After a few months in college and a horrible breakup with a narcissistic cow I have time to blog. The site as you can see got a drastic and much needed face lift. I the coming months I plan to do more reviews and more posts on technology. I also hope to venture into vlogging on Youtube, and a whole host of other blog related activities even as I go into my 2nd sophomore semester of college.

This begs the question what would you like to see from me? More Linux? More Anime? Or something different entirely?

Oracle Vs. Google?

So guys, today after a relaxing weekend of non tech related things, and i have some updates.

  • I got froyo, review pushed back until tomorrow. ( sorry!)
  • I got in an accident. (it’s getting fix )
  • If you’ve noticed I’m a .com-er now :) post on that after this one.
  • School starts in a week ( in which point in time I’ll move to Linux again)

but all of that stuff is not what this post is about. This post is about Oracle, the database company who bought Sun, and their lawsuit against Google.

This is all over the tech blogs and forums and even the Hosts of The Linux Action Show, over at Jupiter broadcasting were covering this story and here’s why. Oracle wants Android to be pulled completely off the market. Why? Because Oracle said that

In developing Android, Google knowingly, directly, and repeatedly infringed Oracle‘s Java-related intellectual property. ArsTechnica

the normal response to that, I assume would be to make Google pay the royalty but:

Oracle is seeking an injunction to stop Google from further building and distributing Android, plus higher monetary damages for willful and deliberate infringement. MSNBC

For those readers who don’t know the android application builder the android SDK is built on java. Sun owned java and Oracle bought Sun, so now Oracle owns java. But, this is interesting. Why wait until now  when android is the 2nd biggest smartphone in the market place? It has 28% according to Giz. Why not attack android when you first  acquired Sun and java? Why do you want android COMPLETELY wiped off the map? Well, its a known fact that the CEO of Oracle, Larry Ellions, and the CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs are good friends and there’s even suspicion of Sun, telling Oracle that they could make a lot of money if they looked int0 the android/ java thing.

My questions are:

  • What does this mean for androids future?
  • How does this crack down affect the linux (Oracle owns OpenOffice and Virtual Box) and mobile communities?
  • what does this mean for you? (comment please)

New Android apps!

Well guys, over the past two days I have been hard at work compiling new android apps to review and I think I’ve come up with 5 that will work. So, here goes!

As you can see above  there are 5 apps here. TWiT.tv, Carrom3D, Greader, FML, and TFLN. Here is my review of them.

TWiT.tv:

TWiT.tv is an application that connect to TWiT.tv a podcasting site started by Leo Laporte . TWiT.tv has all of the latest news in…just about everything tech related and their app for the android is a good one. There are a lot of complaints however that the app doesn’t update properly with the website. which isn’t the case in my experience. As long as you keep updating it manually. ( comment for instructions on how ) it works fine. You can stream both the audio and video versions of each podcast. This app is the prefect way to get your TWiT goodness on the go!

check out this app by searching TWiT in the droid market place

Carrom3D

Carrom3D is a pool simulator, but doesn’t just have pool it has other pool based games. The Demo, which is what you get is a 14 day trial the downgrades to the Lite version after the trail is up. This game is wicked fun for pool enthusiast and strategists, well, I find it enjoyable at least :) Its has a lot of different modes, you can play by yourself, against a computer, or with people over your 3g connection.

to download this app search carrom3D in the droid market place.

Greader:

Next up we have a nifty program called greader. Greader connects to your google reader and shows you feeds that you subscribe via rss. (see link for an explanation of what rss is ). This program is simply the best rss reader for the droid. Does exactly what is is suppose to and does it fast. You can edit folders and tags associated with different feeds, sych intervals, and the appearance.

to install this app just search greader in the droid market place.

FML and TFLN:

This time its a combo FML and TFLN( F*ck my life and Texts from last night ) These two are two of the best ( and worst) time consumers for the android. They connect to the sites Fmylife and TFLN and feed the funny directly to your phone .:) They both have random options so you’re sure never to run out of horrible situations to laugh out loud at :)

To find these search FML and TFLN in the dorid market place.

so that’s all I have for now. Tell me what you think. ^^

Apple's Iphone 4 press conference

Hello guys, I finally got a break for my personal engagements to actually check my google reader and I found the the first one was about the iphone 4′s antenna issue and the conference Jobs called to talk about it, and here are my thoughts.

I just got through watching the conference on Youtube and I have to say that Jobs sure did say a lot of pretty thing’s like ” all phones have problems” and “not a lot of users came to us about this ‘issue’. ” It was as if he was saying ” Hey, IDK what your problem is, but there is no problem with our antenna.” Well Jobs, to be honest there isn’t a lot wrong with the antenna itself. If you watch the videos that are below you’ll see where the antenna is positioned on the phone. The atenna is at the bottom of the phone on the side. This is an engineering problem. Who puts the antenna on the side like that where you KNOW people are gonna grip it?

What was Jobs solution to the problem? His solution was to quite literally cover it up lol. Every who gets an Iphone 4 between now ( a few days ago ) and Spet 30th  gets a Bumper or a cover for the iphone, the idea being that the cover acts as a barrier to shield the antenna from being blocked by the persons fingers. This solution seems to fix the problem for now. I guess the reason their doing this is to buy time to come up with an actual fix to the problem.

Another mention Jobs had after the main part of the conference was over was that the algorithm that calculates the number of bars is off by 2 to 3 bars. This means that when is showed you have 5 you really had 3 and when it showed you had 3 you really had 1. This upsets and confuses me. So if they just discovered the algorithm was off that means that it has always been off and that the only reason they’re doing something about it, is because people are noticing it.

what?so that means you’ve been deceiving customers since iphone 1 to make yourselves look better than you actually are and you’re saying this whole reception thing is mostly a non issue? Are you serious Jobs? I mean com’on man what the heck is your problem dude? These are your brainwashed mass here, at least show them some respect. I guess we’ll see in September what their fix is.  Anyway what is your opinion on this antenna issue and the press conference? the comment form is below the videos…. please and thanks :D

The move to mobile……is here

laptop or desktop?

Well, on TWiT one of the best net-networks out there I heard Leo Laporte, Jeff Jarvis, and Jina Trapani on TWiG discussing the move from the Desktop/Stationary community to the mobile community. Why is is important and what exactly does it mean for the end users and for us the technicians?

Well, for end users, they will be more ” on the go” a lot of users are moving from the desktop platform to the laptop and smart phone platform they’ll be more on the go, more rushed, more WE HAVE TO GO NOW! Which means that the programmers who make applications  for mobile devices  will have to consider the following things:

  • application size
  • memory use
  • ease of use and usability

I bet you’re like…What are you talking about? Programmers already consider those while making programs. Well, those will even be more important things to consider because of the smart phones restrictions. Smart phones have obivious limitations that desktops don’t.

Screen size limits. Those screens are small!

Limited RAM. Smartphones don’t have nearly the amount of RAM that  PC’s have (256 mb roughly)

Limited memory. What? isn’t RAM memory? well no not it this context. In this context memory refers to  space that the phone can use for apps.

Attention span. People are on the go, they don’t want to spend 5 minutes figuring out how something works, if something isn’t apparent they’ll move on o the next application.

all these and more are important things that programmers have to consider when writing programs for mobile devices such as smart phones. It’s interesting to see how things will turn out for programmers as the mobile market takes over, and how they will adapt to this change  in technology.

Where do you think the world is moving? Do you already on a smart phone?
